Kindle anorexia at forty days old
About what you d expect from a 48 page book Brewer draws on some interesting research but there s not really enough space to explore both it and her own story fully I d be interested to read some of that research that she cites but since she s not confident in it page 26 I have no idea whether the studies I am quoting are authoritative or whether they actually definitely prove anything wrong I automatically question her conclusions I ve read write ups of some of the studies actually including ones that indicate that it is actually healthier to be slightly overweight by BMI standards than it is to be at the low end of the healthy BMI range and I appreciate that she talks about that as it s not something that s gotten enough attention. Anorexia at fortytwo But at the same time she s not an expert and some of her own absolutes are pretty arbitrary Unless you are an athlete you should not try to lose weight An athlete may need to in order to meet performance goals Models and actors may need to manipulate weight to stay employed but they would be better served remaking the industry If your job does not require you to have any particular type of body you should leave your body alone 28 It s all good and well to say that but I ve read far too many accounts of athletes losing weight in incredibly unhealthy ways to achieve peak performance runners wrestlers gymnasts ice skaters boxers ski jumpers jockeys swimmers in some of those cases weight does make a difference to performance for various reasons and in others losing weight is encouraged by coaches etc. Anorexia at fortytwo furniture but actually detrimental to performance Seems a bit hasty to say okay for athletes and actors and models but not for anyone else Jenny Brewer The good thing about anorexia is once you ve been through it you are pretty much excused from dieting forever I wrote this so that everyone can go through it with me and also be excused from dieting forever without actually having to experience anorexia Anorexia at Forty.
